Book Review: It by Craig Groeschel
It: How churches can get it and keep it
Very, very good book. Felt like pastor Craig described how and why some churches have it and some don’t. I’ve definitely been on both sides of that “it” conversation. I happen to be at church that has it and our Church is led by a Pastor who “gets it”.
Values I want to insteal from “it”
1. “It” character – get the book and turn to page 31.
2. Hone in on God’s vision
3. Prune back the ministry vine. again check out page 61.
What are the most important things that we do.
4. Love the team you do “it” with. Ha, ha, ha. You know what I mean, your ministry team. Get your head out of the gutter. (If you think that’s funny, Craig talks about getting naked with your team. pg. 79)
5. Celebrating Wins, but greatful enough for the loses that you learn from them.
6. Not having “stuff” might be just what God uses to change the lives of those we come in contact with. pg. 95 or Acts 3
7. Again, learn from failure… but push through to the WIN. A page I need to dwell on for a while. (pg. 120) Very practicle.
8. Love and Share with those around us. Whether people or way different, ministries are way different, We need to live out “Love God, Love People” and for crying out loud if you are a Pastor, stop hating on other Christians and Churches. I’m sure you and your Church, have plenty of your own problems to work through. I know that’s true for my life and my Church (Which again has “it” and is amazing) but we still have plenty to work on. No Perfect People allowed. Sorry about the soap box.
9. Share what you know and be willing to learn what you don’t. We are not in Church competition. (although, I’ve had plenty of Pastors tell me we are). One thing I appreciate about Pastor David Hughes of Church by the Glades, is how often he prays in our staff meeting for other Churches and Pastors in our area by name. He gets “it” that we are on the same team and have the same purpose and Worship the same Savior.
