Announcements are boing and disruptive!

Announcements have always been awkward, boring, and disruptive to our student ministry worship services. However, I do believe they are necessary to communicate “what’s happening” in the life of the student ministry and the Church.  I felt like every single week, no matter who delivered the announcements, students tuned out and started talking amongst themselves.  So we created “what’s happening” as a fun, entertaining way to deliver our weekly announcements.

Here’s an example of what we do:

It’s short, sweet, and to the point.

What are some creative ways that your ministry does or has done announcements?

Chasing

Chasing is our new series at the Wave student ministry at Church by the Glades.

What are you chasing after in life?  There are plenty of worth while things to chase after and plenty more that are not, but what are you chasing after?  Is it success and what does that even mean?  Is it relationships, and who with?  Is it hope, and where do you find that?

In Genesis 3 of God’s word, you find Adam and Eve chasing after “self”, ignoring what God had told them and listening to Satan say, “choose for yourself and be your own “god”".  Chasing after “self” and ignoring God is a great pic. of what we call sin.  I don’t know about you, but I find myself chasing after sin all the time.  And when sin tags me, in this chasing game of life, I become the IT of my life.  It’s all about me.

The amazing thing about our God of love, of incredible grace, is that even we get messed up in sin, and we know that we are shamefully unworthy to be in the presence of Holy God, He still comes looking for us, just like He did with Adam and Eve.  Back to Genesis 3:

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”

So maybe it’s time for us (you and myself), to stop chasing after what this world offers.  Take a moment in our life to stop and consider what God offers us through Jesus Christ, and allow the God of the Universe that is chasing after a relationship with us, to catch us, to tag us.  Maybe at that point we’ll begin to Chase after Him, because we get that IT is really about God.

He is worth Chasing after.  So what do you think?
