I’ve Got Something to Say

I’ve been doing student ministry full time for a full decade now… and I love it. I love that moment when you’re with a small group of students and you ask them to share what they are processing. I love that awkward moment of silence and curious facial expressions and worried facial expressions and I really, really love the moment that one students begins to clear their throat because they have something to say…
Last night in our last small groups session, one of our young men cleared his throat and began to share how he had a new understanding of who was and who he is created by God to be.
That a profound thought! Who I am in this very moment and connecting the dots to who I should be in Christ Jesus. Two totally different worlds… different people that are now in a collision course. When who we are collides with who Christ has called us to be… everything changes. EVERYTHING!
World it’s time for us to listen up then next time this young man clears his throat and mutters the words, “I’ve got something to say…”
This young man is about to speak truth into his world and everything in his world is going to be held responsible for their response to TRUTH.
Response

“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:40 (NIV)
Worship is our Right-Response to God and who HE is. Last week I blogged, facebooked, and twittered out “Define Worship”. I had some great response. One being from a friend of mine, Theda, who is also on the praise team at Church by the Glades. She had this to say about Worship:
Worship is bestowed upon many but worship belongs to ONE. It is not just about singing songs that sound good, raising our hands, or dancing around a building–worship is about a life that pants for God like a dying person longs for life sustaining water. Worship is about honoring God with the truth of our lives. Cain and Saul made sacrifices and called it worship but both accounts were bogus and dishonest because it was not about God but about their egos. “But the time is coming—it has, in fact, come—when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. It’s who you are and the way you live that counts before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being Itself—Spirit…(I am that I am). Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves…in adoration.”~John 4:23-24
POWERFUL! Thank You Theda.

God is, therefore I am…

“Cogito ergo sum” or “I think, therefore I am” used by Rene Descartes, became the foundational element of Western philosophy in the 1600′s. I think the apostle Paul was much more accurate when philosophizing with the Athenians in the first Century when he teaches:
God is… therefore I am
28for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’ Acts 17:28 (New American Standard Bible)
Understanding truth revolutionizes… everything!
