Twitter = Ministry

I love creativity. I love reading books with fresh, relevant ideas. I love checking out student ministry sites, and reading creative student ministry blogs. I love new ideas shared at conferences. I love hanging with my creative team, dreaming and scheming. I love that I get to do ministry in 2009, when media and technology can be used to reach people for the Kingdom of God like never before in history. Our Student Ministry creates videos and art pieces that are cutting edge and relevant. We use sites like facebook and myspace to connect with our students. Texting, phonetree, email, snail mail are all ways that we try to keep connected. Technology like never before makes ministry extremely effective.
About a year ago I started using Twitter. Another social networking/micro-blogging service that allows you to keep up with friends and connect with people litterally around the world. The amazing thing is that every tweet is 140 bytes in length. Basically, a couple of short sentences. In the last couple of weeks I’ve started following close to 500 different people because I’ve begun to realize that with in ten minutes I can litterally get hundreds of diffent ideas. Ideas that I take and use for ministry. Everything from photoshop tetorials to what CNN is reporting to a mom who gives out parenting tips. It’s CEO’s, other student pastors, techies, parents, freaks, geeks, rockstars, movie actors, comedians, and everyday Joes. Where else can you get so much information so quickly.
What a great oppurtunity to connect with the world and to connect the world to Christ!
What and Where are your learning curves these days?

I have some cool friends

So my friends Tom and Kisha Maher are in the middle of a two week vacation in California.
So a couple days ago, i get a text message from Tom to check my Twitter. I get on there
and the High School Student Pastor from Saddleback Church, Josh Griffin, had Twittered me.
How cool is that! Tom and Kisha ran into Josh at the Refinery, their new student ministry facility,
and had him twitter me.
Anyway, can’t wait form Tom and Kisha to get back. Pray for
Josh and their student ministry as they are off to camp this week. Love it when God throws
a surprise my way. Loving life in South Florida. Matt
